By using the “To” pop-up menu, you can specify whether a recipient is a primary recipient of the mail or whether he or she is to receive a “carbon copy” or a “blind carbon copy” of mail that is being sent to others.
When the “To” option is active, all selected users are considered to be of primary significance. The mail is being sent to these people. All “To” recipients will be listed at the top of the mail text after the heading “To:”.
When the “cc” option is active, the selected users are said to be receiving a “carbon copy” of the mail. As an example, if Andrea Lessing wanted Paul Turner to buy a plane ticket for Juana Perez, Andrea could send a letter “To” Paul, with Juana selected as a “cc” recipient. Now Paul knows to act on the letter and Juana knows that Paul is getting her the ticket. All “cc” recipients will be listed at the top of the mail text after the heading “cc:”.
The “bcc” (blind carbon copy) option is similar to the “cc” option, except that other users will not be informed that these recipients received a copy of the mail.
Any piece of mail may have “To” recipients, “cc” recipients, and “bcc” recipients. However, a particular recipient may only be on one of these lists. As an example, if you select Philip Koenig as a recipient of a piece of mail under the “cc” option, his name will be grayed out when you switch to the “To” and “bcc” options.
